1990–1992 Chevy, GMC & GM Speedometer Circuit Board Repair Kit

Restore a dead or inaccurate speedometer or odometer in a wide range of 1990–1992 GM vehicles. This DIY kit replaces the failing speedometer PCB and the most common wear components used across many Chevy, GMC, and other GM instrument clusters.

Supports 85, 110, and 145 MPH speedometer versions. Fitment depends on the instrument cluster style — compare your board to the reference photo to confirm.

DIY Notice: Soldering is required. You will transfer 2 IC chips from your original board.

Key Features

  • Used across multiple 1990–1992 Chevy, GMC & GM vehicle clusters
  • Supports 85, 110, and 145 MPH speedometer versions
  • New PCB plus capacitors, resistors, diode, and crystal oscillator, odometer driver IC
  • Includes new wiring harness plug
  • Step-by-step installation instructions included

Common Symptoms This Fixes

  • Speedometer reads 0, displays incorrect speed, or is nonfunctional.
  • Odometer not turning or intermittent

Vehicle Compatibility

This repair kit is used across many 1990–1992 GM vehicles, including Chevy, GMC, and other GM models equipped with the 85/110/145 MPH instrument cluster. Because GM shared cluster designs across multiple platforms, compatibility is determined by the Speedometer circuit board, not the specific vehicle model.

Compare your original board to the reference photo below to ensure correct fitment.

Installation Requirements

  • Ability to de-solder and solder components
  • Transfer of two IC chips from your original PCB
  • Early-style odometer wire harness plug is replaced with the included updated plug when needed

FAQs

I replaced a capacitor and/or resistor and it still doesn’t work. Will this kit fix it?
Speedometer operation depends on multiple components working together, not just a single capacitor or resistor. When one part fails, it’s common for other components on the PCB to be stressed or damaged as well, which is why a “one-part” repair discussed on forums doesn’t always restore operation. If the PCB is the root cause of the problem and your two original IC chips are not damaged, this kit typically resolves the issue. If the issue is outside the PCB, or if the original IC chips have been damaged, the kit may not correct the problem.

Are all three IC chips available new?
No. GM used multiple versions of the two firmware/calibration IC chips over the years. Those two chips are not available new, so the correct ones must be transferred from your original board to ensure proper operation/calibration. The third IC is included with the kit.
