How does a core deposit work when purchasing auto parts

What is a Core?

  • A Core is an old part that can be rebuilt or remanufactured.

Here’s how the Core Deposit works:

  • When you purchase a part, an additional Core deposit is paid at the time of purchase. (Example: Part $50.00 + Core deposit $25.00 = checkout price $75.00)
  • When the old part that you are replacing (the Core) is received back to us, we refund the core deposit.

How does the Core Deposit refund process work?

  • Included with your order will be instructions on how to return your Core for a refund.
  • When we receive your core, we issue a refund within 5 business days.
  • We send you an email to tell you the refund has been issued.

Why send back your Core?

  • To receive your paid Core deposit back.
  • It helps keep parts available that are no longer manufactured.
  • It reduces trash going into landfills.

More about Cores:

Parts like Hatch Pull-downs, Headlight Actuators, etc, are reliable for many years. But components, like bushings, switched, electronics, and gears, can wear out and cause the part to fail.
Replacing just the worn components can be very cost-effective, helps protect the environment, and produces very reliable results.

Cores must be complete, rebuild-able, and fit the same vehicle application for which they were purchased. This means the part you send back needs to have whatever components came on the remanufactured part you received.
Obviously, the core won't be working well (or you wouldn't have replaced it) but it can't be smashed, rusted solid, or otherwise unusable.

Remanufactured parts usually have a core deposit. The core deposit is to encourage the return of old parts to be remanufactured. You pay the core deposit when you place your order.
If you return the old part, you receive a refund of the core deposit.
