Product Description
Tachometer & Electronic Speedometer Tester for Classic GM Vehicles
For many 1967–1992 Camaro, Firebird, Corvette, Fiero, GM truck, and other classic GM electronic gauge applications.
This digital tester lets you power and test many classic GM tachometers and electronic speedometers on the bench or at the vehicle gauge-cluster plug. It provides the 12-volt power and adjustable pulsed signal needed to check gauge movement, circuit board response, and basic operation without needing the vehicle running.
Our popular tester is now in its 4th Edition. It accurately replicates the signal type and frequency used by many GM tachometers and electronic speedometers from the late 1960s through the early 1990s.
What This Tester Can Help You Do
- Test many classic GM tachometers
- Test many electronic speedometers that use a pulsed signal input
- Check repaired or rebuilt gauge circuit boards before installation
- Help separate a gauge/circuit-board issue from a vehicle wiring or signal issue
- Provide a controlled signal for troubleshooting and repair work
Fast Setup
Simple setup — usually ready to test in about 1 minute.
- Connect the tester to the included power supply.
- Connect the power, ground, and signal clamps to the tachometer, speedometer circuit board, gauge-cluster plug, or test wiring.
- Turn the tester on.
- Select frequency mode and turn the knob to increase or decrease the signal frequency.
Tester Output and Adjustments
- Power: 12-volt DC output for powering the tachometer or speedometer circuit board
- Signal: Low-current 12-volt pulsed DC signal
- Frequency range: 1 Hz to 1000 Hz
- Duty cycle: Adjustable
- Engine range: Works with 1–12 cylinder tachometer applications
- Reference chart: Includes frequency-to-RPM table
Important Compatibility Note
This tester is designed for tachometers and electronic speedometers that use an electronic circuit board or pulsed signal input. It is not intended for early mechanical gauges or coil-only tachometer designs, which are commonly found in some early 1960s and older applications.
This tester is also compatible with many other electronic tachometers and speedometers that use a pulsed signal to operate the gauge.

Noteworthy
The only Tach tester that I know of that can test it outside the car, works great. A dial would be better than buttons.
